Robotics apprentice recognised for her consistently outstanding performance
Davina Kaur from RNA Automation has won ‘Apprentice of the Year’ at the LeicestershireLive Awards 2020 in recognition of her consistently outstanding performance and commitment to her own professional development.
Davina, who is 19, has already won the Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre (AMTC)’s Apprentice of the Month award twice, and reached the final of both the GTA England Awards and the Enginuity Skills Awards earlier year 2020. She is now rotating throughout departments at RNA to gain a first-hand experience and a deeper understanding of the business before starting work in the development of bespoke automation cells. Davina is also a STEM ambassador, promoting careers in engineering for youngsters, particularly women, and is the first female engineer on the shopfloor at RNA.
Davina’s manager at RNA, Engineering Manager Phil Baker, said that Davina had exceeded the business’s expectations of what an apprentice can achieve.
“We employed Davina because of her passion about engineering, determination to progress and develop, natural engineering ability, positive attitude, and eagerness to get involved. We knew she would be a great fit within our team as well as reinvigorating them – her enthusiasm is infectious. Impressively, she was already working on revenue-generating customer projects within two months of joining us.”
The annual awards ceremony, sponsored by the University of Leicester, unites and honours educators and students from across the city and country. Celebrating a wide range of achievements, the ceremony covers 13 categories including Apprentice of the Year, Student of the Year, Community Champion, Sporting Excellence, Science and Maths, Music Excellence award and more. The Apprentice of the Year category recognises someone going above and beyond what’s expected of them, putting in extra effort, throwing themselves into learning a new trade or someone who has consistently been outstanding during their apprenticeship.
The virtual ceremony was hosted by actor and TV presenter Des Coleman on Wednesday 25 November 2020.
